HW3 – Thesis Statement and Outline

49582020 薛瑋瑩 Ceria

General goal: I want to inform my audience.

Specific goal: I want my audience to understand advantages of online shopping.

Thesis statement: The advantages of online shopping are saving time, convenience, various selections and saving money.

Since the developing of Internet, online shopping is a blossoming activity. There are four main advantages of online shopping.

I. The first advantage of online shopping is saving time.

Compare online shopping with local brick and mortar stores

1. Every local brick and mortar stores have the operating hours; you can't buy whatever you want at any time.

2. Online shopping is accessible round the clock. You can buy whatever you want at any time.

II. The second advantage of online shopping is convenient

A. You can browse through many items and purchase anything without going out.

B. You don't have to worry about how to receive the items because some of the online shopping websites deliver the things to the buyer's home.

C. The search engine provides people a good way to search what they want to buy.

D. There are clear categories for people to search what they want. People can easily search and do shopping on the internet rather than finding things item-by-item.

III. The third advantage of online shopping is various selections.

A. According to the condition of each item on the Internet. There are three types of items.

1. Secondhand items sold at auction.

2. New items sold at auction

3. New items sold at shopping website

B. You can purchase some items that only sold overseas on the Internet.

IV. The final advantage of online hopping is saving money.

A. You can bid for what you want with other people at an auction.

B. Sometimes there are some discounts only for online shopping.

My strength & weakness of public speaking (HW2)

My Strength & Weakness of Public Speaking 49582020 Ceria 薛瑋瑩

I. Strength

A. Smile

Whenever I stood on the stage, I always told myself that making a speech was like performing a show. Therefore, I needed to keep smiling to my audience.

B. Appropriate volume of voice

When I was doing a speech, I knew I needed to speak loudly enough. I thought that I controlled my volume properly. All of my audiences could hear what I said then paid more attention to my speech.

C. Preparation

If I have time, I would search lots of information to do the speech. And I practice it as much as I can until I could speak fluently.

II. Weakness

A. Poor Pronunciation

My pronunciation is not well, especially when I am in a nervous situation. I couldn't convey my opinion in a standard and clear pronunciation; therefore, my audience couldn't understand what I said.

B. Nervousness

Whenever I stood on the stage, I became so nervous that I would stammer in some words.

C. Lack of speaking fluently

When I stood on the stage, I was so nervous that I made some grammar mistakes. Therefore, whenever I made a mistake I would stop speaking for seconds to correct what I said.

D. Lack o enough Eye contact
Doing a speech is not only for one person but also for all audiences.

I always reminded myself that I needed to make eye contact with everyone. However, when I stood on the stage, I was so nervous that I forgot to make eye contact with all audience.

E. Lack of Confidence

I didn't have enough confidence about my speech.

III. Analyzing Your Audience

Summary description of key audience characteristics: From these data, I conclude that most audience members are similar to each other and to me. We are all English-major students at NTPU. Most of us are around twenty years old, which suggests that we have a common generational view. There are more women than men in the class, and we are mostly yellow middle-class Taiwanese. Most of us have the same religion, Buddhism. Furthermore, we are from some different areas.

2.Subject-Specific Data

1. The average audience member's knowledge of the subject is likely to be moderate because my audience members mostly have experience of shopping.

2. The average audience member's interest in this subject is likely to be moderate because shopping is a common activity for people.

3. The average audience member's attitude toward my subject is likely to be positive because most of people like shopping.

4. My initial credibility with the audience is likely to be medium because although I searched lots of information about shopping, I 'm not sure the information I prepared is enough or not.
